“Don’t You Want Me” was almost left off the album.
The band didn’t think it fit Dare. The record label insisted. It went to No.1 in the UK and the US and became one of the defining songs of the 80s. Sometimes your least favourite child becomes the star pupil.

Despite the pop success, The Human League always kept a strange, slightly detached edge.
They never fully behaved like pop stars, which is probably why their music still feels distinctive rather than overproduced nostalgia.
