Facts
The band split at their peak in 1982 after internal tensions, largely centred around creative control. Nick Heyward went solo, and Haircut 100 became one of those bands people still say “they should’ve made more albums” about.
Despite the breezy image, Haircut 100 were seriously tight musicians.
Their songs are full of sharp funk rhythms, tricky guitar parts, and clever arrangements hiding under the smiles. This wasn’t accidental pop.
Nick Heyward was only 19 when Haircut 100 hit No.1 with “Fantastic Day”.
Teenage confidence, immaculate pop instincts, and absolutely no fear. It shows.
Haircut 100 exploded in the early 80s with a bright, jangly sound that stood out immediately against much moodier post-punk and new wave acts. They sounded like sunshine had joined a band.
